What’s Under That Christmas Tree?!!!

Teenagers ask for a lot of things. So, what do students want for Christmas?

What cool gifts do people want in 2009? Would students want video games, game systems, brand new cell phones? Some people don’t ask for anything they just want to go ice-skating or skiing. Others don’t like Christmas. Are presents important for students at South East High School? Do they think their gifts are cool?
Andrea Acosta, a freshman at SEHS, said the best gift for Christmas is money. Acosta said, “I am planning on asking my mom and dad for the gift.” Acosta also said, “I am going to tell them that I don’t want anything for Christmas, so they should just give me the money.” She said that she wants this gift because she doesn’t know what she wants.
Crystal Rodriguez, a freshman at SEHS, said the best gift she wants is money. Rodriguez said that she will ask her dad for this gift. She said, "I plan on getting this gift by telling my dad that I want to buy the stuff I want myself." Rodriguez said that she is going to get this gift for Christmas adding, “I think that they are going to put it in the bank and take it out a day before Christmas Eve.”
Jose Delgado, a freshman at SEHS, said that the gift he would like is clothing. Delgado said that he is going to ask his parents so that they can go to the mall to buy it for him. Delgado said, "I plan on getting this gift by asking and bugging my parents to buy it for me." Delgado said, "I want this gift because I want new things to wear since we are starting a new year."
Additionally, students don’t want big things this year. They just want money and clothing. It seems like they are finally learning the true value of money. It seems like students are maturing enough to earn things that cost a lot.

HEY! GET OUT of MY CLASS!!!

Many students at South East High School are getting kicked out of at least one class. A teacher and 2 students comment on the subject.


Was there a time where your teacher told someone in the class to get out? Does this question ever cross your head: why do they act this way? Ms. Rosado, a teacher at SEHS in the VAPA academy, said most of the students get kicked out of class because they are disruptive, defiant, and disrespectful. She also said that this behavior affects everyone. Rosado said, “The students in the class are distracted and receive the wrong message. As a teacher it takes time away from instruction, it becomes stressful and then the dean and the school have to deal with it. Everyone pays the price.”
Additionally, Rosado said, “sometimes kids act this way because of the environment. They can also be dealing with emotional issues and it causes them to act out with bad behavior. They also act out when they don’t understand the work and try to hide it behind their behavior. This causes them not to care about their work.” Rosado also said that misbehavior takes place during regular school hours and when students have difficulties in their classes. “Sometimes students act this way when they want to show off.”
Similarly, Andrea Acosta, a freshman at SEHS, said that even though she has never been kicked out of class she knows people that have been kicked out and that those students that have been kicked out act that way because they are having personal problems and they take out their anger on the teacher by acting out. Acosta said,” The expression in their voices and their faces is anger and sadness, that’s why they act bad.” Acosta first noticed this in middle school. She also said that it was more noticeable in their hard classes and during P.E. She finally said, “the students that have been kicked out of class should talk to a counselor.”
Crystal Rodriguez, a freshman at SEHS, said,” I was kicked out of class because I wouldn’t listen to the teacher or do my work.” She said that she was kicked out of her class when she was in the 8th grade at Curtiss Middle School. She said,” I didn’t like that class. It was history with Mr. Johnson.” She finally commented on the way she felt,” I was really angry at the moment.”
Therefore, if this is something common that is heard around campus talk to some students that are kicked out talk to them and make them understand that even though they don’t like a teacher or subject in the class doesn’t mean that they should act up. These students should see a counselor to talk about a problem that is happening at home. If there is someone out there that needs help with emotional problems then see a counselor right away. They might not give an answer right away but they can help you overcome this problem so that the suffering goes away.

HOW IT ALL STARTED

Edgar Vargas an 11th grader at South East High School (SEHS) said that he would like to go to college. This means that he has to graduate from high school first.

He also said that he can overcome this obstacle by doing all his work and turning it on time. He also commented that this started when they told him that he wasn’t going to make it. Harsh isn’t it?
